Last weekend, Jenny and I went to see the 3rd X-Men, attempted to see Pirates of the Caribbean and failed, and watched Serenity on DVD. While I enjoyed X-Men, I liked the first two better. They dropped the ball with Phoenix/Grey both in the forest and towards the end of the movie where she just stands around. They should’ve shown some inner struggle or something, anything other than having the most powerful mutant stand in a near catatonic state. Overall I enjoyed the movie though. I’ll give it a 7 out of 10. I should do a ranking system like Kottke.

Serenity was a great movie. Having just finished the season of Firefly, watching Serenity seemed the logical next step. If you haven’t seen either Serenity or the Firefly series, watch Firefly first. Serenity is a follow on to Firefly and begins pretty much where the series left off. I’d give this one an 8 out of 10. The only gripe I have with it was that the characters seemed a little off when compared to their behavior in Firefly. It wasn’t enough to distract me for more than 5 or 10 minutes until I was fully sucked into movie-land. Although, I tend to get sucked into movies fairly easily.

Also worth mentioning is Million Dollar Baby, which we caught on HBO a few weeks ago. It’s a very, very good movie that earns a 9.5 out of 10 in my book, but it’s also a movie that I don’t want to watch again. If you haven’t seen it, watch it … once.
